The culture shock they faced on the west coast of America did not deter them from continuing their search for an education and opportunity elsewhere.Among the topics that interested these young men was the role of Japanese in history and tradition. They found that the University of California had a Japanese Studies program which involved conducting research in this area. This prompted these young men to apply for admission to the program.As they searched for twin research paper topics, it became clear that Japanese Americans had a special place in their hearts for Japanese traditions and art. This interest in Japanese cultures became a driving force that led them to become involved in various committees, organizations, and projects involving their cultural heritage.One of the reasons why these young men chose Japanese cultural themes as the topic for their wwii research paper topics was because it became clear to them that Japan was still regarded as a 'backwater' after World War II. It was quite rewarding to see how their passion for Japanese culture paved the way for further studies and academic study.
